Olympia CRC Worship Ministry Values:

God-Centered Worship Gatherings:

When we gather in worship, the music, the words we sing, the scriptures, the sacraments, and the spoken word of God are actions that first and foremost honor God for who he is [Mark 12:30].  Our worship gatherings are communal expressions of a thankful response for who he is, what he has done, and what he is doing in us [Psalm 103:1,2; Ephesians 5:19,20; Colossians 3:16].  We gather, not out of religious habit, social behavior or for external appearance [Matthew 6:5], but rather to reestablish Jesus as Lord in our affections and priorities [Luke 4:8; Psalm 97:9].

Music Ministry Values:

Inspiring Worship:

Our primary role as worship teams and leaders is to encourage and inspire the congregation to worship.  As servant leaders, everything we do should point to God as we pursue a humble, honest, and genuine expression of worship – setting an example of reverence, passion, wonder, and broken-hearted joy [Psalm 34:3; Psalm 100:2; 2 Samuel 6:14,15].

Undistracting Excellence:

We work for musical excellence with the purpose of inspiring worship – leading in such a way that the music and instrumentation compliment the content, encourage worship and do not distract by being either poorly done or overly polished [Psalm 33:3, Psalm 150].

Blended Worship:

We seek to worship together in a way that is meaningful to regular attenders, relevant to our culture and community, and sensitive to the visitors who come in our doors [Psalm 145:1-7].  We pursue a contemporary blend of music – taking the most meaningful and relevant music from the past and present and expressing the songs as the prayers of God’s people today, for His honor [Colossians 3:16; Psalm 96:1].

Mind and Heart:
Our songs and prayers should encourage both deep thinking and deep feeling [Mark 12:30] by combining clear scriptural truth with expressions of music and instrumentation that awaken our hearts to God’s active presence among us [John 4:23,24; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Hebrews 10:22; Ezekiel 43:2,5].
